THE EDIT LOUNGE

AWARD WINNING SHORT FILM - TRAILER
MEET THE STORYTELLER
I’m an editor, filmmaker, and educator with an MFA in Digital Cinema and nearly 30 years of experience in filmmaking, post-production, teaching, and story development.
I specialize in storytelling - Documentaries, narrative films, branded storytelling, and emotionally driven short-form content - shaping atmosphere, pacing, rhythm, and emotional connection through the edit.
In documentaries, I listen for the truth hidden inside raw material - discovering emotional threads, human detail, and the moments that quietly reveal something meaningful. In narrative work, editing becomes timing, tension, atmosphere, and emotional build.
Whether I’m shaping a feature documentary, a branded campaign, or a short social piece, I look for the pulse beneath the footage - the rhythm that allows a story to breathe and connect.
I work primarily in Adobe Premiere Pro and Final Cut Pro X (Apple Certified), combining technical precision with instinctive storytelling and a deep respect for the audience.
Because at the heart of it all, I’m a storyteller.
And the strongest stories move people.

"Taking Destiny in their Hands" is the first attempt to document the relevance of the International Movement for Working Children and the central themes that it addresses. Spanning three continents, and a period of over three decades, the film depicts how the similarities of the movements form their foundation and how their diversities bring rich nuances to their struggle. It gives viewers a rare opportunity to listen to children’s analyses of global problems, their strategies to overcome them and their call to adults and policy-makers to give them due credit as social actors. This documentary is roughly 46 minutes long.

Awake in the Dream (trailer)
"Awake in the Dream" gently takes the audience 'by their hand and heart' and guides them in the recognition of their inherent divine creative power. "Awake" conveys its message through internationally well-known spiritual leaders, visionaries and scientists and the radically honest and touching story of the filmmaker herself. It gives astonishing and easy to follow answers to the most crucial questions of humanity. The beautiful images and soundtrack alone make
the movie worth watching.

TESTIMONIALS
HEAR FROM OUR SATISFIED CLIENTS

I had the opportunity to work with Nikhat when she worked as Program Delivery Head, Audio-Visual Communications, MMC at SIMC. During our interactions I found Nikhat to be a very hard working person with an eye for detail. She is a perfectionist who drives her students to give their best. I also found her to be highly independent and self reliant and capable of taking responsibility and ensuring completion of tasks entrusted to her. She is very articulate and an excellent and succinct communicator.
Nikhat Powell is a passionate, compassionate teacher. Her candor and seriousness about imparting knowledge and experience in an attempt to create a successful future for each of her students reflects in the way she plans and organizes courses. Her ability to think ahead, multitask and look at the big picture through fine details struck me particularly.
Nikhat edited two of our documentary films on Children's Right to Participation. She was in charge of the post production process from start to finish. We found her to be highly accomplished with various editing systems and appreciated her attention to details. Both the films she edited have received acclaim nationally and also internationally. We very highly recommend Nikhat, not only for her editing skills, but also for the commitment she gives to her projects. We would definitely consider using her for our future projects too.
ENDORSEMENTS

This is an unqualified recommendation for Nikki. I was impressed with her professionalism, work ethic and command of the broadcast medium. She worked with me to help produce three in-depth student investigative reporting projects. Nikki is a consummate professional with incredible knowledge of her craft, and the ability to communicate that knowledge to anyone willing to learn. I would heartily recommend her services.
I had the distinct pleasure of collaborating creatively with Nikki for nearly a decade. I often deferred to her expertise on editing when I felt a project needed improved pacing or lacked rhythm. Her ability to analyze a rough edit and find the best manner to tell the story was always impressive. Whether a story lacked suspense, needed to move quicker, or could benefit from some stylistic approach, Nikki always had the answer. Nikki Powell is a gifted editor, and an outstanding artist.
