On Perspective, Late in the Day

A few things that look different from this side of sixty

From this side of sixty, several things look different. Urgency, for one, has thinned. So has the wish to be understood by everyone.

rom this side of sixty, definitions have changed.

The definition of success...
It is less about what I have achieved, and more about how I have dealt with the situations life has put in front of me.
How I handled the wins, perhaps, but even more, how I handled the losses.

The definition of happiness...
Less about big dreams coming true, and more about contentment with the small, ordinary moments.
The ones I might once have walked straight past without noticing.

The definition of gratitude...
Not just gratitude for the job, the house, the family, all the big things.
More gratitude for the moment I am in, simply because I am here to experience it.

The definition of enough...
Perhaps this is the one that has changed most of all...

Perhaps age is not about the addition of numbers,

but the subtraction of expectations.

Learning, finally, what we no longer need to carry.

Whisper:

Enough is a moment.
Enough is also a lifetime.
