NIKKI POWELL
I’m an editor who understands story, pedagogy, and emotion - and I use that blend to help filmmakers, communities, and organizations bring meaningful stories to life. With an MFA in Digital Cinema and decades of experience in filmmaking and teaching, I bring both craft and care to the editing room.
I specialize in documentaries and narratives. In documentaries, I find the story in the raw - listening for truth, shaping it with integrity, and finding the thread that resonates. In narrative work, it’s all about timing, pacing, and holding space for emotion to unfold.
Whether I’m cutting a film, a branded piece, or a social media short, I don’t just assemble footage; I immerse myself in the characters, rhythm, and pulse of the story. Adobe Premiere Pro and FCP X (Apple Certified) are my tools, but my truest instruments are intuition, story sense, and a deep respect for the audience.
Because at the heart of it all, I’m a storyteller. And I believe in the power of stories to inspire, reveal, and connect.

Editing a documentary is a challenge. A challenge I enjoy. Finding your story, then finding a way to tell that story engagingly could take time. As pieces of the jig-saw puzzle fall into place, pieces of the story come together with both visual and sound.

Taking Destiny in their Hands
"Taking Destiny in their Hands" is the first attempt to document the relevance of the International Movement for Working Children and the central themes that it addresses. Spanning three continents, and a period of over three decades, the film depicts how the similarities of the movements form their foundation and how their diversities bring rich nuances to their struggle. It gives viewers a rare opportunity to listen to children’s analyses of global problems, their strategies to overcome them and their call to adults and policy-makers to give them due credit as social actors. This documentary is roughly 46 minutes long.
